Last night's full moon was to die for. Todays hump day is a beautiful chamber of commerce weather day. I absolutely love the spring on the beach. As I came home I saw my two feathered friends sunning directly in front of the beach house close to the water. I just know it is the same couple. About 5 pm I watched a young surfer brave the water in his wet suit and bust some waves. It still seems a little chilly in the water for me.

Day 119
Incredible weather. Love this coooooool breeeeeze. The sound of the waves just transports you to a stressfree environment. Even el gato tried to escape the house.and hit the beach. Discovered my two feathered friends that I have been photographing must actually live on my portion of the beach. They were sunning together again and I did not disturb them today. One always stands on one leg...I can't tell if the other leg is missing or what. And another type of seagull flew down to inspect what I was doing or maybe to protect the couple. I do have an imagination, huh?

Day 118
Cool monday. The radio DJ's said it was going to be a weird day because of the warm full moon. Not too bad with the kids. Painted repros of Mona Lisa and The Scream in the classroom today. I was bored and started a "western cowgirl" mona lisa. Stay tuned. Brilliantly aging women was the topic with Raquel Welch on Oprah later this afternoon. Something to think about. Also...the main topic on this island...is BAIT. see sign. Cooking steamed veggies, farfalle with Paul Newman's Own Alfredo Sauce and Lightly Grilled Tilapia. Other photos were of the umbrellas on the sand below the seawall as well as the shell artwork in Miller's REstaurant last Saturday.

Day 117
Today, March 28, 2010, was the best beach day we've had on Bermuda Beach since we moved here 117 days ago! The sun was warm, the sand warmer and people were everywhere...even in the water. We got our feet wet for the first time today! After beachcombing, we sat out on the deck for several hours reading, eating, online surfing and people watching with the cat. Livin' on island time.

Day 116
The best saturday is one where you are your own boss. Standing right on the beach and feeling the cool breeze with the hot sun glowing down on you and the sound of the waves and seagulls in the distance is enchanting. Step back under the shade and you take yourself out of the bright spotlight and it seems like a dreamworld around you. Spoke to dad and he is even better today after physical therapy this week. Mom won 2nd at the quilt contest in Tyler yesterday.
Today, we drove down the seawall and dined at the lime green architectural structure called Miller's REstaurant since 1976. It was pricey, but excellent. The omelet was the the most delicious we've had yet. Then off to Office Max and Randalls for errands. While at Randall, there was a dalmation that kept trying to enter the store. It had a bump on its nose and a bloody eye. The phone on the tag was disconnected. A good samaritan lady took it to the animal shelter. Spent the entire afternoon doing paperwork. Supper was italian with spagetti and most excellent garlic bread. Reading the newest House Beautiful tonight in detail that discusses different types of wood. Saw this catamaran with a dog today on the beach....called miracle. Yes, saturday is.

Day 115
TGIF...came home to a ROAD rather than sandy drive. Yippeee. Walked along the beach and enjoyed a nice stroll with only a few shells. Doug hit golf balls against a hanging piece of carpet and then we scooted off to the old, old historic graveyard on Broadway close to the Strand. Spent a few hours taking over 100 photos and some interesting gravestone reading. Tried a few grave rubbings with pastels and crayons. The long shadows and setting sun gave a nice erry feeling to this place. Lots of German immigrants are buried there. Oldest year we saw on the stones was 1810 died. Many had ornate angels, leaves, statues and shells mixed in the concrete. Lots of marble and granite crypts. Later, headed over to that illusive China Island Restaurant off 61st and Broadway. Do not...I repeat....Do not EVER eat there. Yes, they had small fried whole crabs, sushi and spicy chinese...but they fried the shrimp with the shells on it. We drove home hoping we would live to see the beachhouse one more time.

Day 114
Trying to decide how much to reveal on this island blog. Do I keep it just surface level or do we go knee deep in the sand so to speak? What direction should I take? I've taken the highway so far. And that brings me to signs. Couldn't resist snapping this important destination sign to visitors to Galveston.

Day 112
Absolutely a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Two thoughts today: Why name an asian restaurant China Island?.....and why only partially pave the sandy beach out front when the city workers are all abuzz just 1/2 mile away on the highway? But...at least some progress has been made. Now, if only we can keep the sightseerers from tearing up the gravel before it is hot topped. There ya go!

Day 110
Frostbite could easily happen when you are at the water line on the beach and you get your hands wet picking up damp shells with a blowing northern wind in your face. But the shells....oh la la! Huge cockle shells and angel wings reward the brave and foolish at 7 am on the first day of spring. Later, we went into Randalls and their Starbucks for a latte and Green Tea Frappacino along with the Galveston Sunday paper (since they won't deliver, donchaknow). Spent the rest of the day watching trucks and cars get stuck in the sand in front of our house. We are thinking about putting a shovel out and a bucket with the honor system because the number of people getting stuck is increasing. Question: How many trucks and people does it take to get one utility truck that is stuck out of the sand? Answer: 4 trucks and one with a hole digger as well as the supervisor and 4 workers. See the images just taken of the Center Point Energy fiasco. They must have been reading my mind for I thought they should take up the poles and drag the truck directly on the harder surface of the beach. They were stuck twice before they figured that out. We were nice to them, but they refused Doug's shovel.

Day 109
Drove for 6 hours in constant rain from the ranch back to the beach today. Lots of traffic and people everywhere. There was a large car stuck in front of our sand driveway when I arrived home. The Houston paper will no longer throw and the mailman will no longer deliver because of the deep sand. An average of 4-6 people are getting stuck every day. The city came by yesterday and scrapped off the blowing top layer and claim to bring rocks to pave on Tuesday. We'll see. Doug has surprised me with plans to dine in Galveston tonight and then go and see the live Broadway Revue at 8 pm at the Grand Opera House build in 1894. Photo is of a chuckwagon in the rain being hauled over the bridge that goes over the Port of Houston. The rodeo is winding down and it is probably from that event.
Day 108
Stayed at the ranch in East Texas all day with daddy and mother. Dad is recovering from quadruple heart bypass and is doing well for two weeks after. Grandson Cody talked him into going outside to look at a new tractor. He is using his walker and we are trying to make him not overdo. Mother is an angelic nurse and cook. We had roast beef sandwiches and fried chicken with pecan pie. Great Granddaughter Kaeli and her parents, Lindsay and Presley, came down for a visit. Kaeli is one month old and cute as a button. Tim and Julie live next door and visited with sons Jake and Cody. We listened to dad's favorite, RFD cable TV.....Rural Farm programs with lots of country yeehaw music! And of course, there was time for horses and cats!
