I took almost 200 shells to school today for the students to use in a contour line lesson. I quoted poetry to get into the beachy mood...."I must go down to the sea again"....and "O Captain, My Captain." Maybe 3 students had ever heard of these famous poems. I discussed Winslow Homer's watercolor of "Tornado in Galveston 1899" and explained how artists paint historical events. Things were going great until the classroom of 28 boys decided to smash the shells. Not giving up, but taking more shells tomorrow for the other classes.
It was raining most of the day. Visitors, vendors and carneys are in town getting ready for Mardi Gras this weekend.Picked up Doug from work because his truck is getting repairs. We stopped at The Spot/Drip on the Seawall for Caribbean Salad and Turkey Burgers. No fries! I came home and the tide was predicted to be high tonight so we parked on the street behind us away from the water.
